Ceremony & Reception Details

Location

The Oviatt Penthouse in Downtown L.A.
617 Olive St.
Los Angeles, CA 90014

Located on top of a 13-story Art Deco highrise in Downtown Los Angeles, the Oviatt Penthouse was built in 1928 for wealthy department store magnate James Oviatt. Decked out with custom-made Parisian furniture, glasswork, and art, Oviatt’s penthouse was the site of many lavish parties attended by Hollywood luminaries including Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, and Walt Disney. In recent years, it’s been used as a shooting location for Mad Men, and was a visual inspiration for the fictional Hotel Cortez in American Horror Story: Hotel. Staff at the Oviatt have assured us that the venue is only slightly haunted.

Timeline

⚠️ Please note: This is a rough schedule. Exact times will be confirmed on the official invitation. Our wedding will be an evening event, but times may be shifted by 30-60 minutes. ⚠️

5:00pm

Doors open. Per the venue’s rules, no guests will be allowed inside before 5:00.

5:30pm

Guests are all seated; ceremony begins.

6:00pm

Cocktail hour: drinks, mingling, and city skyline views.

7:00pm

Buffet dinner, open bar, and dancing!

11:00pm

Reception ends. Guests interested in keeping the party going are invited to seek out one of Downtown L.A.’s many bars for additional festivities.

Attire

We’d love for our guests to join us in cocktail to semi-formal attire. A suit (with or without a tie), a blazer with dress pants, any length of dress, or dressy separates would fit in nicely with other guests. But as long as you feel good in what you wear, we feel good!

The ceremony and reception will be outdoors. Evenings in L.A. in early October are mild, with temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s. We’ll have heat lamps, but you may want to bring a shawl or light jacket to stay comfortable as the night goes on.

Transportation & parking

Public Transit

We love L.A. Metro–and it’s the best way to get to Downtown! The Oviatt is an easy two-minute walk from the Pershing Square metro station, which is on the B (Red) line and D (Purple) line.

Both lines connect to other parts of Downtown, as well as popular neighborhoods like Hollywood, Koreatown, and Studio City, so it’s a fast and efficient way to beat traffic and get where you need to go. Trains run until about 12:15am.

Check Google Maps for bus options as well–but be advised that L.A. buses often experience delays.

Rideshare

Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful in L.A. and will get you to The Oviatt easily! Just set the destination to 617 Olive St., and have them drop you off on the northwest side of the street.

Parking

Guests will be provided complimentary valet parking at The Oviatt, which you will see just in front of The Oviatt building. Valet opens at 5pm and will run until 11:30pm.

If you prefer self-parking, street parking is usually limited (you may get lucky!), or there are a variety of paid lots in the vicinity. Please take note of the fine print at these paid lots so you don’t wind up overpaying for parking!
